Arsenal midfielder Christian Norgaard is set to join Everton in a £7million deal after the clubs reached an agreement in principle. The 32-year-old Danish international would become Everton’s fourth summer signing if the transfer is completed next week.
What happened?
Everton have moved quickly to replace Idrissa Gueye, who left as a free agent this summer. Norgaard, who joined Arsenal from Brentford last year for £10m, made 20 appearances but only seven in the Premier League as Arsenal won the title. He now looks set to move to Merseyside after Everton targeted a physical midfielder to fill the No 6 role.
Why it matters for Arsenal
Norgaard’s departure follows Leandro Trossard’s move to Besiktas, making him the second first-team player to leave this summer. Arsenal have already brought in goalkeeper Illan Meslier and forward Christos Tzolis, but losing Norgaard could weaken midfield depth. Last season, Arsenal finished 1st in the Premier League with 70 points, 6 points clear of Manchester City, scoring 62 goals while conceding just 24.
What comes next?
If the deal goes through, Norgaard will undergo a medical at Everton before finalising his move. The Toffees have already signed Hayden Hackney, Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl this summer. Arsenal, meanwhile, will focus on reinforcing their squad ahead of their next fixture against Fulham at home on 20 February 2027.
