Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract to remain as Arsenal manager. The deal commits the Spaniard's long-term future to the North London club, providing stability after a heavy defeat at Brighton last weekend.
Arteta's commitment arrives as Arsenal sit second in the Premier League, with 12 points from five games. They are three points behind leaders Manchester City, a position built on four wins from their opening five fixtures. The manager's new terms were confirmed by the club this week.
Rebound from Brighton setback
The announcement follows a difficult 3-0 loss away to Brighton on September 19. Pascal Groß, Charalampos Kostoulas and Chema Andrés scored for the Seagulls in a match that halted Arsenal's winning run. Before that, the team had secured victories over Ipswich, Sunderland, Napoli and Chelsea.
Arteta, who took charge in December 2019, has overseen a significant rebuild at the Emirates Stadium. He guided the club to an FA Cup in his first season and has since established them as consistent title challengers. This new contract signals the board's full confidence in his project and long-term vision.
Squad building continues
With the manager's future secured, focus can remain on the pitch. Bukayo Saka is the team's top scorer this season with three goals. The squad, which includes summer signings, will now look to respond positively to the Brighton result. The club's current standings show they remain firmly in the early title conversation.
Arteta told club media he was "delighted" to extend his stay. "This is a special club, and we have a clear journey we are on together," he said. The 44-year-old's previous deal was due to expire in 2025. His new contract is understood to run until at least the summer of 2027.
