Arsenal's Bid for Newcastle Captain Bruno Guimaraes Rejected

Arsenal has been rebuffed by Newcastle in their pursuit of midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who is currently at a pre-season training camp in Spain. The 28-year-old Brazilian international, who joined Newcastle from Lyon in 2022 for £40 million, has made 195 appearances and scored 31 goals for the club.

Arsenal's initial bid was rejected by Newcastle, with the Magpies determined to keep their captain. Guimaraes, who expressed a desire to join Arsenal last month, is under contract until 2024, plus an option year held by Newcastle. The Gunners are now considering whether to return with an improved offer.

'Interesting Chess Game' Between Clubs

According to football expert Julian Laurens on Sky Sports News, the situation between Arsenal and Newcastle has turned into a 'chess game.' He notes that Newcastle will seek to maximize their financial gain from Arsenal, while Arsenal is unlikely to overpay for Guimaraes.

Laurens explains: "You knew Newcastle would go into these negotiations trying to get as much money as possible from Arsenal. But we've seen from Arsenal this summer they won't pay over the odds, what they believe is the value of a player - Bruno Guimaraes, Morgan Rogers, Diomande and others.

'Now, the two clubs can discuss it a bit more,' says Laurens. 'I think Newcastle know how much Guimaraes wants to leave and join Arsenal, and we know the current situation financially from a Newcastle point of view.'

Future Outlook for Guimaraes

Newcastle's pre-season training camp in Spain is where Bruno Guimaraes currently finds himself. He left Brazil on Sunday, with reports suggesting he was expected to arrive at La Manga. However, it has been confirmed that he will join the Newcastle squad as per agreement.

Guimaraes praised his former head coach Eddie Howe, calling him 'the king of this club' in an Instagram post. Howe's departure came amid Arsenal's interest in Guimaraes and the Brazilian player's desire to move to Arsenal.

Laurens adds: "I fully expect him to play in front of the back four, and have Rice and Odegaard either side of him, and be able to dictate the tempo and control everything."

The situation is expected to conclude within a few weeks, with Arsenal likely to secure one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
