Arsenal have hired the Boston Consulting Group to conduct a review of the club's operations and costs. The move comes as the Premier League leaders, currently second in the table with nine points from three wins, aim to balance on-field success with financial sustainability.
Chief executive Richard Garlick, who was appointed to the role in September 2025, confirmed the engagement. "We’re a football club. Our job is to win major trophies but we want to do it in a financially sustainable way which means we need to grow our revenues, focus on our partnerships, venue and retail," Garlick said.
The review follows the publication of Arsenal's latest financial results, which showed record revenues of £691 million for the 2024-25 season. Despite this, the club posted an overall loss of £1.4 million. More significantly, underlying operating losses before player sales grew from £50 million to £65 million year-on-year.
Overall operating costs rose by £53 million to £200.8 million. The club attributed this increase to higher staging costs, specific costs linked to delivering increased revenues, certain residual property matters, and general inflationary pressures.
The work with Boston Consulting Group is understood to focus on Arsenal's non-footballing operations. While cost-cutting is one potential outcome, the review is also expected to identify areas for improvement to help maintain the club's current competitive status. Both Arsenal and the consulting firm declined to comment on the specifics of the engagement when approached.
Garlick, who joined Arsenal in 2021 as Director of Football Operations before becoming managing director, is overseeing the strategic initiative. The review arrives at a time of strong sporting performance. Mikel Arteta's side are on a five-game winning run across all competitions, most recently beating Napoli 1-0 in the Champions League with a Martin Odegaard goal.
